During 2018/2019, WBM contributed to the ICE award winning project, to improve capacity through Plymouth’s busy city centre. Additional objectives to this project were improving air quality by reducing congestion, while providing better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, offering more consistent and improved journey times.
Working with Balfour Beaty and Plymouth City Council, WBM implemented a wide range of works, including but not limited to:
- Assisting in the demolition of Bretonside Bus Station, to make way for Plymouth’s new Multiplex development, The Barcode.
- Large scale utilities diversions
- Trimming and preparing for a new road layout, including additional lanes to improve traffic throughput.
- Trimming and preparing for enhanced footpaths and cycle paths through the city centre.
WBM participated in being part of the 89% local labour objective, whilst also helping to achieve a 92% customer satisfaction level for the entire project.
After completion, the project gained a Considerate Constructors scheme score of 42 out of 50, alongside a certification of excellence.
